Newfoundland and Labrador is the easternmost province of Canada. Situated in the country's Atlantic region, it incorporates the island of Newfoundland and mainland Labrador (located northwest of the island) with a combined area of 405,212 square kilometers (156,500 sq mi). The Island of Newfoundland has its own dialects of English, French, and Irish. The English dialect in Labrador is similar to that of Newfoundland. Labrador also has its own dialects of Innu-aimun Inuktitut.
A former colony and dominion of the United Kingdom, Newfoundland and Labrador became the tenth province to enter the Canadian Confederation on March 31, 1949, as Newfoundland. On December 6, 2001, an amendment was made to the Constitution of Canada to change the province's official name to Newfoundland and Labrador. In day-to-day conversation, however, Canadians generally still refer to the province itself as Newfoundland and to the region on the Canadian mainland as Labrador.

Thank you for this Johnson fight. 🍻
115 years ago. Damn.
Love hearing her voice albeit years ago but seems it could be yesterday still …….the first female superstar ……….
Zero 0⃣ world War then.
Looks more like a hugging match for most of the time! 😂
Dempsey > Willard > Johnson > Jeffries
"...It is merely a day by day personal film diary..." Never ever underestimate the value of a personal diary! Thank You for this share, hutton87!
#1 Retired for 6 years. #2 Had to lose 110+ pounds to get in fighting shape. #3 outdoor stadium where the temperature was 110+ degrees. #4 Fight scheduled for 45 ROUNDS!!!!! #5 Current Champ in tip top shape. He went 15 rounds with the champ in spite of all of those circumstances. This man is a winner in my book!
Jack Johnson is the greatest. Jack Johnson beat the living hell out of the punk coward racist James Jeffries. Jack Johnson is the greatest. He is a legend. Wow, what a man!
Hollywood should make a movie about Jack Johnson for inspiration.

Jeffries decision to draw the colour line when he was champion was very much in keeping with the racially segregated society of the time. Ironically though, if he'd fought Johnson when he was in his prime it would have afforded him his best, perhaps only chance of outworking Johnson, as Marvin Hart had done. At the very least it would have been a competitive fight. However by the time he decided to come back, he hadn't had a serious fight for 8 years, he had to lose masses of weight very quickly and lastly he didn't even want the fight, but was tempted by the money and under tremendous public pressure. The hatred of Johnson and the racial prejudice of the time blinded him and his backers to the inevitable. Physically he was a hollow shell and Johnson was at his peak. No contest.
Her greatest wish was for Pickfair to become a museum after she passed but horribly it was torn down by Pia Zadora and her husband, after the County and the City ALLOWED IT TO BE DONE, shame on them.
I have to blame the destruction of Pickfair on the City of Beverly Hills and the County for allowing it to happen and issueing the permits to do so.
What a treat this is. Thank you for posting.
"Sam Langford affectionately called the Boston tar-baby" Holy shit, the racism back then was unreal. Also, "Affectionately"? They thought calling him that was nice? It makes me shudder to think what was considered mean.
William Howard Taft was north of 300 lbs. He ain't reffing 45 rounds.
If only there were a time machine I'd like to go back in time be at ringside and watch these great fighters go at it
I loved this interview!
That was a grappling match, not a boxing match.
She always had a straight spine and lovely straight shoulders...plus a brow ridge....hang on there not female traits !
Awwww! Learned so much about what went on in the Hollywood sets.
Hollywood today is an enemy of the USA. I do not watch ANYthing they spew out. Ungrateful, hateful lowlifes. I wish they’d all GTHO of my country if they hate it so much. They know NOTHING about ANYTHING. Couldn’t fight their way out of a paper bag.
Hollywood should make a film about Jack. He was a great character as well as boxer and his is an amazing story
Ahhh. at four-score yrs of age, MM still makes me sigh.
When men were men. Women were women and you knew the difference. Classy, well dressed, intelligent, talented, fierce, fun loving, they worked hard and played harder. It wasn't all glitz and glam some were extremely sad and depressing but when it was good it was really good. Who wouldn't want to be living during this incredible time in our countries history. I know I would have given my eye teeth to be amongst this group of greats. Do sad it no longer exists.
Love to hear from the legend of silent films and helped created United Artists oh yes did great in talkies too. Thanks.
I'm in Ontario but just bought a house there off the Internet. I'm impressed. Very clean and nice looking town. Can't wait to sell my condo and move there.
Who's idea was it to have a massive fight schedule for July in the desert!?!?!?!
لساتك عايش ؟؟؟
Johnson made$65,000 for that fight, which is a little north of $2,000,000 in today's money. Not a bad chunk of change, but Jeffries including his signing bonus made almost twice that as the losing challenger. That's 1910 for ya
Drop

I guess text Rickard was anti Teddy Roosevelt. Teddy Roosevelt did have boxing experience while the others mentioned did not.
110F and 15,000+ perspiring dudes. The stench isn't mentioned.
Because they were men. Not mealy-mouthed milquetoast pussified pantywaisted little pissants, such as yourself. Cheers!
